Industrial Engineering

More information:

As an industrial engineer, what would I do?

Industrial engineers apply their knowledge, training and expertise to do things better. In particular, they look at how products can be manufactured faster, better, cheaper, and greener, not only by rethinking product design, but also by designing the processes that make manufacturing easier. Industrial engineers also look at systems—everything from factory production lines and on-line banking services to hospitals and airline scheduling—and find ways of improving them. They use applied mathematics, quality control, optimization, productivity tools, ergonomics, and other techniques to eliminate waste in time, money, energy, and materials.

Why choose Industrial Engineering at Concordia?

Industrial Engineering offers a strong undergraduate education in all aspects of the discipline. One focus of the program is the manufacturing industry, with an emphasis on the design and analysis of modern manufacturing systems where performance measures like productivity, quality, and safety are considered simultaneously. Our program is strong on production management, manufacturing systems, quality management, facilities planning, simulation, safety engineering, and human factors. In order to enhance understanding of the individual engineering components that are the building blocks of an integrated industrial system, our students also join with mechanical engineering students for courses in such subjects as manufacturing processes and machine drawing and design. Our graduates are also qualified to apply their knowledge to government organizations and the service sectors. Concordia University is the only university in Quebec that offers an Industrial Engineering program in English.

Our program is accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board and our graduates are eligible to become registered professional engineers.
