DEPARTMENT OF BUILDING, CIVIL AND ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING

Canada Research Chair -- Sustainable Industrial and Mine Waste Management

We invite applications for the position of Tier I Canada Research Chair in Sustainable Industrial and Mine Waste Management. The chairholder will be expected to engage in theoretical and experimental research on new and innovative sustainable waste management technologies. Also, expertise in one or more of the following areas is required: site rehabilitation and remediation, prediction of pollutant release, control of acid mine drainage (AMD), site characterization and evaluation for the chemical and mechanical properties of industrial waste, evaluating new techniques for waste depollution and characterization of industrial by-products. The CRC will build academic programs and collaboration with industry, lead international collaboration and find new opportunities for funding to enhance research into sustainable waste management and the reduction of environmental impact. Government (NSERC and FQRNT) and industry funding opportunities are expected, in addition to international funding from various programs. Teaching is also an important activity of the chairholder. Building Operation Dynamics

Construction Engineering and Management

The Department of Building, Civil and Environmental Engineering invite applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Construction Engineering and Management.

Applicants must possess a PhD in Civil Engineering or in a closely related engineering field and have interest in pursuing leading-edge research in one or more of the following areas: Automated as-is building information modeling with visual and spatial data fusion; Video-based monitoring for measuring project performance; Monitoring on-site equipment emissions for sustainable construction; Dataset development for construction equipment recognition; Building information retrieval using sensing technologies. Teaching and research experience at the University level will be an asset. The applicants must have strong background knowledge and expertise in information technology such as artificial intelligence, computer simulation, object oriented modeling and innovative visualization of products and processes life-cycle optimization.

Applicants will be expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to supervision of MASc and PhD students, and to excellence in teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. They must also conduct independent scholarly research and have a proven record of attracting strong external funding and training of Highly Qualified Personnel (HQPs).

STRATEGIC HIRE, BIOMEDICAL IMAGE PROCESSING - DEPARTMENT OF ELECTRICAL AND COMPUTER ENGINEERING & THE PERFORM CENTRE

The PERFORM Centre and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science

Concordia University's PERFORM Centre and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering are seeking excellent applicants at the Associate Professor or Assistant Professor level in Biomedical image processing. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a strong and independent research program at PERFORM while being a faculty member of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

The recently launched PERFORM Centre is a multi-disciplinary research centre located in Montréal, Canada, and part of Concordia University. The centre involves more than twenty researchers from different departments across campus with a research focus on preventive health research and the
promotion of healthy lifestyles. The PERFORM Centre hosts a state-of-the-art imaging unit dedicated to conducting cutting edge lifestyle preventive health research. The centre houses a GE Healthcare 3T Magnetom functional MRI scanner, a PET-CT scanner with cardiac imaging and a SPECT-CT scanner. In addition there are specialized labs in electroencephalography (EEG), transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), ultrasound and dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA).

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is comprised of 41 faculty members, 14 staff members and approximately 550 undergraduate and 600 graduate students.

Applicants must possess expertise and research interests in the processing of biomedical imaging data. She/He would be an emerging or established expert in developing new signal/image processing tools to build advanced statistical models of biomedical signals. The candidates' interest could include but not be limited to, structural biomedical imaging, resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or diffusion MRI, PET imaging, advanced EEG, near-infrared spectroscopy and Doppler imaging.

A strong emphasis is placed on fundamental and applied research, interdisciplinary research partnerships, and the ability to establish and develop industrial collaborations as well as international collaborations. Teaching is also an important activity of the successful candidate.

Applicants must hold PhD and Bachelor's degrees in a relevant Engineering discipline. The language of instruction at Concordia is English; however, knowledge of French is an asset. CENTRE FOR ENGINEERING IN SOCIETY

Extended Term Appointment

The Centre for Engineering in Society (CES) of the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science, Concordia University, Montreal, invites applications for an Extended Term Appointment (ETA). This is a full-time position for an initial appointment from August 2014 to May 2017. The CES teaches courses in technical communication, professional ethics and social implications of technology. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses, primarily in technical communication, administer the faculty's diagnostic writing test, and contribute to our efforts in improving our students’ critical and innovative thinking.
Required Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates holding a Ph.D. in technical communication, science and technology studies, or another discipline that will contribute to CES's mission. A demonstrated ability in teaching, preferably with large classes, is an asset. The appointment will be at the rank of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer, dependent upon the applicant's degree and qualifications.

Design Engineering

The Centre for Engineering in Society at Concordia University is inviting applications for a faculty position in design engineering. The successful candidate will be expected to lead in the development of innovative design education in building, civil, computer, electrical, industrial, mechanical, and software engineering and in the faculty's new aerospace program. The successful candidate will be expected to engage in teaching design-related courses and to conduct research. This tenure-track position is offered at the Associate Professor level. The candidate must hold a PhD degree in engineering or a related discipline, and most importantly, have extensive design experience in industry, including design of large scale integrated products or systems.
The Centre for Engineering in Society teaches courses in technical communication, professional ethics and social implications of technology, with the goal of educating practitioners who are responsive to the community and social context of engineering practice. The candidate therefore must possess excellent communication skills and a commitment to incorporating principles of global engineering in the design process.
