Concordia University has licensed Sophos Anti-Virus software for the entire University community.  It is a simple way to get Sophos Anti-Virus software to faculty, staff and students.  The Sophos Anti-Virus software can be installed on any computer owned by the University for University purposes.  The University is also licensed to provide Sophos Anti-Virus software to active faculty, staff and students who can install a copy of this software on computer(s) in their household for home-use. Such users will be provided with a time-limited edition of the software which may require re-installment on their home computer(s). Please refer to IITS Sophos service page for more information.

If you are a faculty or staff member of ENCS, you can download Sophos from the following ENCS website.

Before you start, make sure you have the latest virus definitions by running a Sophos update. These steps in the document will show you how to set up an extensive configuration for Sophos Antivirus. You can adjust to other options to fulfill your needs.

The instructions provided in the document are for installing and configuring SOPHOS for Windows XP, and should also work for Windows 7. It is important to note that the auto-update feature is available only on the Sophos software package created after June 2005.

If viruses are found after a Sophos scan, and as a user, you do not have sufficient privilege to remove all these viruses, the local administrator of that particuler system needs to modify the privilege for users in Sophos groups.
